Octagonal Blender
The Octagonal Blender combines efficient powder mixing with precise discharge control, designed for scalable pharmaceutical blending from lab to production scale.
- The basic equipment is thoughtfully designed with non-FLP construction for enhanced safety and reliability, making it suitable for various industrial applications.
- The main structure of this equipment is expertly crafted from heavy-duty SS 304 square tube, ensuring durability and longevity.
- The blending bin and gear box output are seamlessly coupled with heavy-duty Pin Bush Coupling, ensuring efficient and reliable blending operations.
- A variable frequency drive is included for precise speed control, allowing you to tailor the blending process to your specific needs.
- A self-positioning sensor is provided to ensure accurate and consistent discharge positioning, reducing the need for manual adjustments.
- At the discharge point of the blender, a manually operated butterfly valve simplifies the discharge process, providing easy control and flexibility.
- The discharge includes a specially designed adaptor assembly with T C (Tri-Clamp) connection. In the event of damage to the butterfly valve, this assembly serves as a safeguard, preventing material loss and ensuring product integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the blending capacity range?
From 2.5 Kg lab bins up to 5000 Kg production bins, so a formulation can be scaled on the same blending geometry from development through to full production.
How full should the bin be?
Fill to roughly 50-60% of the bin's gross volume. Tumble blenders need headspace for the powder bed to cascade; overfilling collapses the mixing action and lengthens or spoils the blend.
How long is a typical blend, and at what speed?
Usually 10-20 minutes for a free-flowing pharmaceutical blend, fixed during validation. The variable frequency drive tunes shell speed. Lubricated blends are sensitive to over-blending, so blend time and the lubricant addition point are set in the batch record.
How is the blend discharged?
A self-positioning sensor stops the shell with the discharge cone pointing down for complete, repeatable unloading. Discharge is through a manually operated butterfly valve with a Tri-Clamp adaptor assembly that also guards against product loss if the valve is damaged.
What is the construction and material of construction?
Non-flameproof construction on a heavy-duty SS 304 square-tube frame, with the gearbox output coupled to the shell through a heavy-duty pin-bush coupling. Product-contact finish and MOC (SS 316 / SS 316L, mirror or matt polish) are configured to your requirement at the quotation stage.
Octagonal blender, double cone or bin blender?
All three are diffusion (tumble) blenders. An octagonal blender gives a large working volume in a low-headroom footprint and treats fragile granules gently. A double cone suits smaller batches and quick cleaning; an IBC/bin blender suits contained, dust-free transfer where bins move between suites. Tell us the batch size, bulk density and containment need and we will advise.
